 \9.4.18\ The French indie pop band who has been enjoying success for some time has followed a similar popularity arc as our last band. Formed by three high school friends, Thomas Mars, Deck D'Arcy, and Chris Marzzalai, in the suburbs of Paris in the 1990's, the group played together as a garage band. In 1995, Laurent Brancowitz left Darlin', who's other two members would go off to form Daft Punk, and joined the band who in two years would be named Phoenix. 1997 would be the year the band would publish copies of their first single on their own label, but later joined Source Records. They would release their first album in 2000 titled United, quickly finding footing across the canal in England. Their next album, Alphabetical, would cement their name around the world. Three albums and one Grammy later, the group had hit many top 100 lists around the world. In 2017, a sixth studio album would be announced.  \2.4.18\ Originating from Portland, Oregon like another band we’ve covered, the group kicked off in 2000 after Colin Meloy met Nate Query. She would introduce them to Jenny Conlee , and the trio would meet a fan of Colin’s other work, Chris Funk. besides a rotating cast of drummers, they now perform with John Monroe. The band has put up many releases, finding critical acclaim for their first debut on Capital Records and their album The Crane Wife which featured “O Valencia” and the epic piece “Crane Wife 1,2,3”. The band started to see more airplay after appearing on Late Night with Conan O’Brian. A few albums later and the band weren't prepared for their record, The King is Dead, hit no. 1 on the Billboard 200 as well as a Grammy for best rock song. After their surprise success, the group took a hiatus. During this break, Colin Malloy went on several solo tours, announcing in 2013 that the band would start recording their next album.
